Confused

So I'm confused about the Olympics. I thought the nature of the Olympics was for each nation to represent themselves in various sporting events. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm far too simple minded. When I see things like a Canadian coach for the Japanese Aerial ski-jumpers, and an american born and raised in Vail, CO on the Canadain ski team it kind of chaps my ass/tweaks my melon.
Also, when is it okay to say "Olympiad" versus "Olympic Games"?
AND, another thing, leave Scotty Lago alone. Seriously. Maybe I'm too forgiving or liberal or I don't know, FUN! But you can't really be shocked by the photos from this 22 year old snowboarder.
Phew.. I'm happy I finally got all of that off my chest.
Happy Olympics, GO USA!

What a day

Friday started off in quite the frenzy. I rolled over to my husband still asleep... I looked over to the window and the sun was up... ugh! Sun being up and my husband still being in bed during the week equals BAD! Well, he was voluntold to hit up Sam's Club for BBQ supplies. His troop was playing paint ball all day then having some burgers at 5. Needless to say my early morning scare was a gift from the Army- allowing me to sleep-in during the week with my hubs. :)

Well, after I got out of bed and got my day started the real excitement began. My sister being 35 weeks and 5 days pregnant was having pretty intense contractions. My first thought: "thank god her husband made it home 3 days ago!" My second thought: "Hmmm, he's at briefings all day. I guess I'll have to head down that way." I get to my sisters and she's in tears. I get Nathan ready to go to his friend's house for a few hours, then get Katie into the car and to the (new) Labor and Delivery floor at Evan's (on post). They hooked her up to monitors and we came to find out the baby was perfectly fine (other than being impatient), she was contracting and dilated 1 cm. We were originally told that they wouldn't give her anything to stop the contractions/labor since she was 35 weeks and 5 days. At 36 weeks she would be considered full-term and they would have delivered the baby on post. Prior to 36 weeks they would have sent us over to the local civilian hospital. All the same, they sent us home and told Katie to go back to be checked for further dilation after 4-5 hours.

*4-5 hours later*

Levi is taking Katie, who is having VERY intense (buckled-over-on-the-floor-crying) contractions back to the hospital, and I'm trying to console a very, very, very upset 3 year-old and get him to my house for dinner. Needless to say Nathan was highly upset over his dad coming home for only 10 minutes to change and take his mommy back to the hospital- cried screamed for over 30 minutes for his daddy. Separation anxiety is going to be a sad, cruel part of this child's life. :(

This time at the hospital they actually did give Katie a shot to stop the contractions. This initially made things worse on her but eventually did decrease the contractions!

Oh, did I forget to mention she has finally (thank the lord) landed on a name for my soon-to-be-new nephew?

LOGAN CHRISTOPHER

After being told she was having a girl, deciding on Madison Hope and then changing their minds to MaKenna Hope and then finally being told/seeing without a shadow of a doubt that they were in fact having another bouncing baby boy they chose Caden Christopher as this little baby's name. Well, no offence to anyone who has named their baby boy Caden or has a family member with this name I am just not such a fan. I didn't like the name from the beginning. BUT as soon as I made peace with this name and start referring to him as Caden my sister decides she isn't so thrilled with it anymore. UGH!! I wanted to scream. All the same this little bundle of joy will have a name, whenever he choosing to come screaming into our lives!
After all of that nonsense our weekend seemed to slow drastically down! Thankful for that! We made it through Katie's baby shower without the baby coming and without LAME games and still had a good turn out and a lot of fun. :)

In other news this is my 294th post! wooo... that just kind of impresses me. When I started blogging about a year ago I never thought it would last this long, that it would help me as much as it has, or that I'd actually make some pretty damn good friends because of it! 300 here we come. I'm debating on whether or not to do the whole "Question and Answer" thing... what do you think?
Time to get my Baked Ziti on the table... yummm!

I Want it.... Wednesday

I want to share a helpful driving tip with you all....
when you're driving near a merge point (which is how I think these areas should be referenced) do you, when possible move to the left lane so that the cars merging can make their way onto the road with ease? If not you SHOULD damn it!
Please consider the following graphic:
Yes, I made this bad boy in Paint. I haven't used paint since I was hmmm... 8 or so. Either way... the point being if you are the Orange box car you need to shift to the left because well it's the courteous thing to do. And BEING NICE IS NICER THAN BEING MEAN! So just get out of the way.
End result:

You're welcome for the little tid bit of advice.
Happy Wednesday.

HES HOME!

My brother-in-law is safely home!!
Couldn't be happier that he's home with Nathan and Katie.
MAN, was it a late night though. They landed in Colorado Springs at midnight and they didn't arrive at the SEC until 3 AM! Which is you know, typical yet crappy considering the hour. But we made it and it was sooo amazing to see Levi reunite with his son.
Talk about a tear jerker!

We are all so relieved to have our soldiers home- at the same time I mean!
Let the fun begin!

We did it

Ok, so even though I changed my mind and didn't want to do anything special for Valentine's Day my hubby made reservations for dinner at The Cliff House in nearby Manitou Springs. Kevin and I have been to the Cliff House twice before; once for my company's Christmas party and the first time we attempted to have a special stay there. The Cliff House Hotel not only has 5-star dining but has also won the AAA's 4 Diamond award since 2001!! This place is amazing. I had the had the Black Truffle stuffed Blue Cheese topped Bison Filet and Kevin tried the Duck. I don't remember the specifics of his- well because I didn't choose it. It was served with steamed spinach which is not something I'm interested in and we shared a great bottle for German Riesling. All in all we had a great night. Maybe doing something special for V-Day isn't so bad after all?

Other than that I'm thrilled over tonight's Keeping Up With The Kardashian's! WAKE UP KOURTNEY! Scott is the biggest douchebag on the planet.
Who bets she stays with him though?

And in this coming week my brother-in-law will be returning from his most current deployment from Afghanistan. Well really in the coming 24-hours! I'm excited for his return not only for the obvious reasons but also because my sister is ready to pop! She's a whopping 9 months pregnant and also Nathan needs his Daddy back home. Can't wait to see his little face!!! Hopefully I'll get a few good pics!

The V-Day

Are you guys into Valentines? If yes, why? If no, why?

Well you guessed it. I'm not such a Valentine’s Day fan. And you probably know why... well partially.
When I was younger no one wanted me to be their Valentine- well except for my BESTEST Valentine EVER: MY DADDY!
This bummed me out. Made me feel sad... :(

Then as years went by and I did have someone on Valentine’s Day I felt like it was just a silly-overly-cheesy "holiday". As someone in a relationship I thought it was kind of silly/ridiculous to have a "holiday" invented for the sole purpose of reminding us to show our love and appreciation for our significant other.
We should do this every day.
Should being the operative word.

All that being said, I haven't celebrated Valentine's Day since I've known my husband; haven't forced him to get all dolled up, take me someplace fancy where we may or may not even enjoy the meal. This year I was feeling like I wanted my hubby to plan something special/unique for us to do together. I was talking to a girlfriend about it and we decided after some conversation that I needed to tell Kevin about this; that he wouldn't just assume this year were different and take the initiative on his own.
Guess what I did?
I told Kevin I wanted to go out this year and that I wanted him to plan it!
He started his planning...
AND (of course) I changed my mind!
HaHA (joke's on me)

So whether you choose to celebrate your love on the 14th of February or not remember to express your love and affection towards your special someone then and everyday!!

While I was away...

So after we found out that Amanda and Stephen are expecting a bouncing baby boy we were stuck at their home for the following 2 days, thanks to the 3rd biggest blizzard in DC's modern history! BAMM! Yes, and I was supposed to fly out on Monday. That didn't happen. I received a travel voucher and changed my flight to leave on Tuesday morning. I wound up getting out fine but after a week away, I was sure missing the hell out of my hubby! I know my milspouse readers are thinking "A week? You gotta be kidding me." Well, I've learned that I'm built kind of backwards. I made peace with the fact that Kevin would be gone, before he deployed for a year to Iraq. I just get used to the idea of being without a person for long periods of time. But for some reason being without escential people for short periods of time really just... hurts my heart. All the same, I missed Kevin to pieces while all of this was falling from the sky:

when all was said and done 2.5 feet fell in Centerville, VA ( where I was ). It was craziness.

I happend to snap this picture while passing by the Washington Monument. It's blurry and taken from my BlackBerry but the colors are amazing- I thought!

PS: For those of you who have received the email circulating around the net that the ACLU filed suit to have cross-shaped headstones removed from military cemetaries and end prayer from the military all together, this story is ABSOLUTLEY FALSE!
"The ACLU has never once advocated for or initiated any litigation in favor of, removing cross-shaped headstones from federal cemeteries," spokesman Will Matthews said in an e-mail.

I love how people just flat out MAKE THINGS UP to support their own agenda.
It's sickening.

Have a fabulous Wednesday.

For this weeks edition of I WANT IT WEDNESDAY:
I WANT MY BROTHER IN LAW HOME FROM A-STAN!
I want... the douchebag soldier who keeps discussing movement with his equally douchebaggary wife who calls Staff Duty complaining and questioning the information her husband gave her; to be locked in a room without communication to the oustide world until the flight lands in Colorado Springs!

COLD

After multiple delays I finally made it, in one piece to DC.  The weather here held out just long enough for me to make it into Dulles but today the snow is falling!! They are expecting 1-2 FEET! I have this sneaky suspicion that I won't be making it home on Sunday. We'll see... keep your fingers crossed for me so that I make it home safely on Sunday. There is a lot going on the beginning of next week- my sister's birthday and my brother-in-law's homecoming (from a-stan)!
Sorry I missed this week's edition of I Want it Wednesday. It'll be back next week!

O... I almost forgot to tell you, Amanda is having a baby BOY!!!!

Things I love

First: It's extra cold today!
Second: I miss my husband. Usually I'm not so mushy... I'm not sure what it is this week but I'm missing him like MAD! I'm just 3 days away from my journey to DC. I think that's what's really getting to me this time. I'm the one leaving. Initially Kevin was going to be here, but yesterday they told Kevin he had to go out to the field early this morning until Thursday afternoon. And I leave Thursday morning. So I won't see him until Sunday evening. Keep your fingers crossed. The weather man says it's supposed to snow in DC Friday-Sunday. Hopefully I don't get stuck! :( I miss him already!
Third: RAISE YOUR HAND IF YOU'RE AS EXCITED AS I AM FOR LOST!!!?
WOOOT WOOT!
Fourth: Does it bother anyone else when you're merging and there is ONE car for miles and they insist on staying in the right lane versus moving over to left-hand lane so that you can merge??
(this is something I "love" sarcastically)
Fifth: I have to finally confess my LOVE for General Hospital...Anyone else watch this soap? I love it! The drama is at an all time high! Wooo!
Sixth: Grey's Anatomy! ummm...
Dear Ellen Pompeo: I heard that you were planning to leave Grey's when your contract is up. This saddens me deeply. How can the "title character" just opt to leave. :( WTF? What will happen to my favorite show if you do in fact leave?
Say it ain't so! :(
Sincerely,
Samantha
Ok I'm done sharing random facts about myself for today.
Hope everyone is having a great week!
