Can't I just skip it...?

or AT LEAST postpone/reschedule until for another day. You see yesterday (May 1st) was the 26th anniversary of my birth. It was sucky and rather great all the same time. My husband knows I love birthdays. So, even though he's half a world away in Afghanistan he's been plotting and planning for about 2 weeks to make this day special for me. He sent me gorgeous flowers:
And was planning a surprise party for me with the assistance of my sister and mother. However, the problem with a surprise party is that the person you're surprising doesn't know about it. So, trying to now completely skip my birthday this year I sent out a request to get some friends together at The Melting Pot. Kinda ruined the surprise shin-dig. Boo. After I "ruined" (more like rescheduled, unknowingly) my surprise I had to work on Saturday night. Usually Saturdays are kind of heavy at work. I figured "why bother taking it off though, I'll be home around 230 and press on with my day. Nope! It was "label night" we had to change over 5000 labels in the commissary. I left at 4... I was like people "it's 4.. and it's my Birthday and I really don't want to sleep the entire thing away." they were like "ok homie... beat it". So basically my day consisted off homework and sleep. Thank God for my Momma though! She got some goodies and her and my sis gave me some gifts so I had a lil birthday celebration! I tried to make the best out of the day I was dealt and my husband helped me out a lot with that. :)

(I'm a lucky girl)

Another bit of news I wish I could skip is the fact that Osama bin Laden is dead. I mean, great job troops ! But forgive me for being concerned for those still in Afghanistan. It amazes me that people "forgot" or simply "don't care" that there are still 1000's of troops there. I guess it just doesn't occur to people that there could be retaliation. hmmm.

I'll be sitting here thinking happy thought- trying to convince myself that everything will be ok.

Cookies n' such!

My buddy Jen hosts a weekly recipe blog hop. This week she is featuring Cookies!!
Who doesn't like cookies?
If you do (don't like cookies) than you can just stop being my friend.... NOW!

Here's one of my fav recipes:

Cheesecake Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars
Ingredients:
1/2 c Sugar
8 oz Cream Cheese
1 egg
1 Package rolled Chocolate Chip Cookie dough.

Directions:
Spray Pam in the bottom of a 9x13" baking pan. Press about half of the cookie dough into the bottom of the pan. In a small bowl mix together the other ingredients and pour over the first layer of cookie dough. Then add the remaining cough on top of the cream cheese mixture. Bake for 18 mins at 350 degrees or until golden brown on top.

And ENJOY!

It's a fav. I've also tried this once with brownies and cream cheese.... YUmmmmm!!

25 WHAT???

YEARS!!

Can't believe that. Do I feel it? NOPE. I feel all of 6 or 13ish... you know, give or take. Honestly, if I could stay one age forever it'd be 6. Seriously, just hear me out on this: You're still young enough that all you really do is run and play... mixed in with minimal education. You don't care about your weight or fashion. You aren't stressin' over boys. Aren't worried about politics or world issues.... Peace in the Middle East (ut umm). Nothing, not a care in the world. You're mommy still cooks for you, cleans your bathroom, does you're laundry and (most importantly) pays your bills!

All the same, this past Saturday I had a great birthday! Got up bright and early and went to Nathan's soccer game (which is truly the cutest thing I've seen to date)! Then Kev and I rushed home and got all cleaned up for our journey to Denver. We had a great lunch at Maggianos... yumm Chicken Parmesan. After lunch Kevin and I took a nice long 8 block walk down to Kuulture. Kuulture if you aren't familiar, is a Pinkberry knock-off; the concept is basically a Coldstone knock-off just minus the ice cream and plus fat-free frozen yogurt with fruit and cereal as mix-ins! Super yummy and an amazing birthday treat!

Once we finally made our way back home we had some of my bestest friends come over for cake, snack and good times!

All in all... a GREAT way to celebrate the 25th anniversary of my birth!!

Weekend in Review

First, I wanted to point out that my hubby is at PT at 530 (Local/Colorado time); Granny is in New Jersey (NJ) where they are 2 hours ahead= 730 AM! (-;

Okie dokie, I'm not sure how you all spent your weekend or what you did. *wink wink* But mine started off dragging (just about literally) Kevin to the doctor. You see, he's been sick since Tuesday. He went to sick call where the PA didn't deem him sick enough to actually see him. The medic sent him back to regular duty with some useless scripts. Come Saturday morning and he was still coughing up a lung... yes, I MADE him go to the doctor. The Urgent Care place I went to last time. The doc was originally very concerned about Flu. Thankfully, he tested negative for both seasonal and H1N1 flues. So the doc sent us on our way with an antibiotic for either walking pneumonia or bronchitis. She said that it wouldn't be necessary to do the x-ray (in order to confirm pneumonia) because the meds that were prescribed treat both.

So our Halloween plans were canceled and we laid around the house. Kevin had a few hot-totties and we watched some TV. We had no candy but that worked out we didn't have not even one trick or treater! Phew... bullet-dodged!

PS: When I was at wally-world picking up Kevin’s prescriptions there was a MOUSE running around the Pharmacy and waiting area! yuck.
Sunday consisted of the laziest day in a long time. We hung around the house again. That basically sums it up. Hey, no reason I shouldn’t rest because Kevin was sick- right?
~***~

Today is my Daddy's birthday! Tonight I'm having everyone over for dinner. My Dad is one of my favorite people on the planet. I've always been a Daddy's girl.

Love you Pops! HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Concerts

Wednesday:
Was kind of a cluster (you know what). Originally my mother bought 4 tickets to the Keith Urban/Sugarland concert; 1 for her, 1 for me, 1 for my sister, and the last for my Aunt. Well, my Aunt decided she didn't want to go and up until Tuesday my sister was going. Sadly, Nathan was getting sick and being a real grouch, so she decided to pass and I invited Kaitlyn. She had told me how jealous she was that I was getting to go to this concert. So, it wound up being me, my momma, Kaitlyn and Cindy (my mom's hair dresser). We left really early for a 730 show, but after we hit some traffic got some dinner and found our seats we had about 30 minutes to kill... not too bad. Sugarland opened up, but I think they had a longer set than most opening acts. They were so good and Jennifer was so entertaining and funny- aside from her singing talent. But I didn't get any pictures of her. In fact if you all remember Brody ate my camera so I'm still camera-less. I did get a few pictures of Keith Urban on my Blackberry... like a complete a-hole I forgot I had the damn thing during Sugarland. =(

Keith Urban on the other hand... while he is pretty to look at, he wasn't so great- honestly it was very disappointing. I knew only 2 of his songs and one of them was as we were walking out. We didn't stay the entire time. That also had to do with the drunken broads next to me who were screaming nonsense (not regular concert singing- more along the lines of belligerent-drunken-ness), dancing and bumping into EVERYONE around them, CONSTANTLY coming and going because they had to pee; Beer often has that effect on people. DUH.

Thursday:
Another journey back to Denver. This time it was the Fillmore Auditorium versus the Pepsi Center and for 3 Doors Down and Miss Kaitlyn's birthday!! =) Actually, Wednesday was Kaitlyn and her husband's wedding anniversary. We had a very busy two days... ha ha. Well we stopped for yummy dinner at Chili's, where I thankfully got my second wind! Then made our way downtown to the Fillmore, found parking and ventured inside. Three doors down was sooooo good! They completely rocked and we had a great time. The only downer was that the concert was general admission so there was lots of heat, bumping into other peeps, and well the fact that it was a rock concert means there was pot smoking. Ugh! Just before 3Doors Down came on this tall-ass mo.fo. and his female friend elbowed their way right in front of me! GRRR... he was easily 6'5", yeah, I'm all of 5'4 3/4" can't forget the 3/4's people that's VERY important! The band takes the stage and I catch a whiff of the pot... GREEEAT right? Well I look over and the Ginormous man was smoking on his pot. What an ass! but thankfully he left soon.

Now to the good part: at one point everyone about two feet away was on the floor with their cell phone pointing toward the floor, obviously looking for something... I lean over to the very nice blond lady who filled in after the tall-pot-smoking man left and ask her what's going on. She said that they were all looking for a guitar pick and just then the stage lights came up and I look over to see the pick on the ground! I reached down and grabbed it in a very nonchalant fashion and stuck that lil' treasure right in my bra! That's right... it's the safest place I could think of! ha ha

If you aren't familiar they sing "Citizen Soldier" and "Here Without You"... they made big shout outs to the military and we went all buck-wild crazy. Its always really nice when the people who fight and their amazing families get some recognition. =)So Kaitlyn and I had a fantastic time at 3 Doors Down for her Birthday- a big thanks to her hubby for buying the tickets.

Sorry for the lack of pictures people. But they are coming soon. Kaitlyn will be emailing me hers soon and then I'll get them up!

Vortex of Nonsense

I haven't updated in a few days.... I have been trapped in this whirlpool with apparent way of getting out of it! Tell me why some Sgt. at the battalion in theater would receive the Red Cross message that I sent to Kevin (requesting his presence at his Granny's funeral) and do absolutely nothing with it for 2 days!! Grrr... So after Sgt "NoName" decided he'd had enough fun with my Red Cross message he passed it along to Kevin's Col. The Col said "nut-ugh, no way Jose. Granny isn't immediate family. No emergency leave for Samantha's hubby today!" Well, who know what he actually said; I doubt it had anything to do with me, ha ha. But all the same the answer was no. Evidently there was still more to be done. Today was when we really got sucked into the vortex of nonsense: At the end of everyday Kevin goes to "notes". After notes today the Commander pulled him aside to ask him about Granny. The Commander says that the Col is considering letting him come home for the funeral. Whaaa, huh, Come again?!!? I digress... The Commander goes back to the Col, the Col says he wants Kevin's immediate supervisor (Sgt. M) to talk to the first Sgt, then the first Sgt to talk to the SGM, THEN the Col wants the SGM's opinion before he grants Kevin emergency leave. Or not. I'm sorry, but why?? Why does the Col give two shits what the SGM thinks, when he's the one who is ultimately going to make the decision? Why waste all of these other peoples' time, when (again) the Col is ultimately the one who is going to make the decision? Why must the Col smash our hopes (of return and closure), than give them back and them jerk us around? Maybe it's fun for him...? Either way to make a long story- short we're still friggin waiting for the final answer! More than likely will be tomorrow AM I will know one way or the other. Either way I did pick up some of Kevin's favorite foods at the commissary, have new rank and combat stripes sewn on his Class A's and their being dry cleaned as we speak/type... you know just in case. =)

Job update: Last week I had two interviews. I didn't blog about them because I was hoping (this time around) that if I didn't say anything about them I would get a different outcome than I have received thus far. Not so much luck. I interviewed for a position in the Spa at the Broadmoor but the HR lady called me today and told me the Spa decided they didn't need anymore employees so are no longer hiring. So 1 down, 1 to go. This is a better gig too. A company called PSI won the contract to handle the child support cases in El Paso County for the next 3 years. They called, I completed 4 assessments, than interviewed the next day. I think it went well but as always it's a waiting game! Grr... No other bites since. =( Fingers still crossed. Time will tell. Still applying. Still waiting for word from my hubby.

Waiting- story of my life.

Birthday

I think today is a special day... yes it pretty much was a special day! Yeah, as you all know it was my birthday. I started off going to breakfast with my Pops- biscuits and gravy!!! Yumm! Then I headed to the salon to get my hair did! I wish I could post a picture of that but now it's flat and not looking so good- I will post a picture ASAP. Well, I do love the way it turned out and I think I finally found a stylist that I like and will stick with. My hair and then my Blackberry are my birthday presents from the hubs. So romantic right?? Well it's what I wanted! wooo woo! THANKS babe!

Here's a few pictures of some if the sweetness which was bestowed upon me on this glorious day:My BFF Amanda sent me this great arrangement from Baton Rouge, LA.!

Nathan accidently popped one of my balloons! So this sad flat one laying on my dining table actually should be flying with the others! That's ok though. My sister and Kaitlyn stopped by this morning wth balloons, cheesecake, cards and goodness!! =) I love me some balloons! A birthday isn't a birthday without balloons and blow of candles, right? Well I guess 1 out of 2 isn't so bad right? I got the balloons but I never actually got to make a wish and blow out my birthday candles. =( Yes, this makes me sad but it's not for lack of trying. After my day I met my mother and Wayne for dinner at Zio's. It was great (as usual- but way to much food)! They told the waiter it was my birthday and he brought this very dense chocolate/truffle cake- alamode. The cake was a little too dark and truffle-y for my taste but the ice cream saved it. BUT no candle!
After dinner I had plans with my friend Amy. We decided on going to a movie she checked the times and said either 730 or 855. Well 730 came and went and I hadn't heard from her (I texted and called). Then 8 o'clock came and went so I figured I'd been stood up, ON MY BIRTHDAY!! I was crushed! That only lasted about 15 minutes, when she text messaged me and said she was planning on the 855 show. At first I did think, "huh... you left me hanging." But life happens and I would prefer to get my ass off the couch and go to this movie than have "Stood up" forever plastered in my mind for how this birthday ended! So we met and saw "Ghosts of Girlfriend something" I don't remember the title but you guys know which one I'm talking about! It was exactly what you thought it would be, but all the same it was enjoyable and lighthearted!
I even got to talk to Kevin! Thankfully- he was supposed to be rolling out for another mission... thankfully the mission was delayed for one reason or another so I actually got to speak with my hubby!! We didn't think it was going to work out. But I know that he loves me even if he doesn't or isn't given the opportunity to say it and I know he's thinking of me even when he can't be here! I love him and I'm blessed to have him in my life!
Babe: I know that you wanted to be here, but it is what it is right? Missed birthdays and things are just apart of the gig! I Love you all the same. I don't blame or resent you for it! Thank you so much for a fantast and ABSOLUTELY PERFECT day! Your presence was the only thing missing from my day. I love you so much. Talk to you soon!
So ladies that is all from me for today. It was a great birthday (minus candles and all)! =)
