Confused

So I'm confused about the Olympics. I thought the nature of the Olympics was for each nation to represent themselves in various sporting events. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm far too simple minded. When I see things like a Canadian coach for the Japanese Aerial ski-jumpers, and an american born and raised in Vail, CO on the Canadain ski team it kind of chaps my ass/tweaks my melon.
Also, when is it okay to say "Olympiad" versus "Olympic Games"?
AND, another thing, leave Scotty Lago alone. Seriously. Maybe I'm too forgiving or liberal or I don't know, FUN! But you can't really be shocked by the photos from this 22 year old snowboarder.
Phew.. I'm happy I finally got all of that off my chest.
Happy Olympics, GO USA!

Thank you! I thought the same thing tonight when I heard about the guy who had duel citizenship but decided to compete for Canada. My friend watching said it was because he wasn't good enough for our team.

So I hadn't seen those photos but they did make me laugh just now lol

It's all about fame and money isn't it? I'e heard of lots of athletes who have gained citizenship to certain countries just so they have a better chance of competing. I was thinking about all that country prides and so on the other day, it seems to be more about money and fame these days. But they still can knock out some pretty cool tricks. :)

Agreed on all counts and I'll add one, too. Since when did our Olympians stop putting their hand over their heart during the National Anthem? I'm so proud of our athletes, but when they don't sing any of the words (which I give to them, it's an exciting moment ... drink it in) and pump their arms or raise their medal instead of holding a hand over their heart, it makes me mad. Is this sign of respect not a big deal to anyone else? Is my view old-fashioned or skewed?

I dove in college against girls at the University of Houston - one went on to win a gold medal for RUSSIA, one was MEXICO's national champion, and one was GERMANY's national champion... and don't you love it? The U of Houston coach was the Russian Olympic Coach. Drives me CRAZY!
